This pride month I honour the life of Deante Goss aka. STEEZ MCFLYY.

The love of my life with a troubled soul and complicated existence.

This video was shot during our time together.A fiesty relationship, shared with his ex. It was like something out of a film.During the day I worked for apple and at night we were on the streets of Los Angeles, tearing it up, smuggling cameras into after hours parties, shooting during sexual encounters. It was riviting.
Creatively Deante wanted to show a new legitimacy to queer rap as yet unseen. Mocking successful rappers simulating their sexual moments on camera with big bootied girls hired to look good. My objective was to capture his sex working lifestyle.Something that he hated, yet clung onto despite being shown new paths.

What surfaced was a risque chaotic edit, which was naive in its construction but full of energy, heart and sexuality. This was brought to completion then abandoned by Deante, who chose not to release it. fearing the repurcussions with his family and industry at large.

The video got lobotomised, we fell out because of this process of culling and cutting and the safe version of the edit got released to ‘meh’ like reactions and is now somehow deleted from existance.

Seven years on, and Deante has passed away.
In my mind we were always going to get back together and eventually die together.

I am filled with regret, and mixed feelings of bitterness and devestation. The cliche that I wish I could turn back the clock and force him out of his daily habit, and live the life we spoke of, dreamed of, making art together with laughter. He was kind, intelligent, talented, real, honest and beautiful.

What follows is a reconstuction of the files, long lost within the drama. I feel it appropriate timing to release this film now, not as a promo calling card, but as a study in love, pain, boldness and weakness. seven years on it still resonates. seven years on it should serve to remind queer people to be bold and tread new ground, without fear of the repercussions.
